A reflective wavy pattern covers a Swiss logistics centre

The reflective wavy pattern covering a Swiss logistics centre nearly causes the large cube to merge with the surroundings. Three additions – a 4-storey, order-picking warehouse in reinforced-concrete construction; a high-bay-storage structure; and a single-storey outlet – and an existing building were upgraded with this new skin. Alluding to the contents of the warehouse, reference is made to the foil of a chocolate bar. Realising the skin required real handicraft: to attain a varied pattern, 4000 aluminium sheets were riveted to the corrugated-metal supporting structure. The results of the first trial were unsatisfactory, so, based on the architect’s sketch, the contours were transferred via spray paint to the substrate.
